SchoolofNursingNURSING

The BSN program of nursing complements our medical school and helps meet the local, regional, and global need for highly-trained, compassionate nurses. In addition to alleviating a critical nursing shortage, graduates of XUSOM’s BSN program are also able to use their education to achieve leadership roles in providing and improving healthcare through effective communication. All of these skills will be honed and cultivated through our accredited nursing school.

The BSN program integrates a minimum of 58 semester hours of liberal arts educational programming that includes natural sciences and mathematics, communications, socio-behavioral science, and humanities.  The mission of XUSOM’s School of Nursing is to prepare baccalaureate-educated registered nurses (RN) to provide the highest standard of safe nursing care to individuals, families, and communities.

To apply to the nursing program, the applicant must:

  1. Submit the following to the Admissions Office:
    • The completed online application.
    • An unofficial high school transcript, an official score report from the test of General Education Development (GED), or prior academic credit transcripts.
  2. Upon acceptance into the University, the applicant completes the National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Exam (PAX) during the first semester.

*Criteria for automatic admission into the nursing school include a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and a minimum composite score of 20 on the ACT or 950 on the SAT (combined critical reading and mathematics sub-scores).
